“People Have the Perception that it’s dangerous to be out”
People across the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota are all saying the same thing, “It’s dangerous to be out” right now. That’s the reality for Minnesotans who have been pleading with Governor Walz for months to prioritize public safety in areas that have been hit hard by violence and the rise in crime. Small business owners, activists, mothers all are concerned that they may be the next victim.
Most recently, an increase in armed carjackings have members of the Minneapolis community worried about what’s to come next. This year police say there has been an average of 1.5 carjackings reported each day in the city, and in 2020 carjackings increased 286% in comparison to 2019. Amidst the obvious crime surge, Governor Walz has allowed public safety to fall to the wayside.
With the holidays right around the corner, small businesses are concerned that Minnesotans will be too afraid to venture into the Twin Cities to do their holiday shopping. Minnesota residents are tired of a leader who does little to alleviate the issues that are causing fear and impacting residents’ daily routines. Instead of supporting local police, Governor Walz has left law enforcement in the lurch. Currently, the Minneapolis Police Department is operating without a third of its required force, which only intensifies the public safety issue and makes it harder for officers to close cases and make arrests.
