Under Gov. Walz, Failure to curb crime draws national focus
Many Minnesota residents are concerned about the future of our state. Under Governor Walz’s leadership, the public safety situation has gotten out of control and only worsened in recent months. Even the White House has been monitoring the dramatic spike in Minneapolis crime. In an effort to help curb the “surge in gun violence,” the Biden administration said it will collaborate with the local government to use American Rescue Plan funds to help the city’s police bolster its force through recruitment efforts, as well as help prosecute those found responsible for gun crimes.
With many experts predicting that violence and crime will dramatically worsen during the summer months, public safety is increasingly becoming a top priority for Minnesotans. Just last week five students were victims of gun violence in the Dinkytown neighborhood, leading the University of Minnesota president to speak out and vow to improve safety through increased patrols and additional safety measures for students.
At the time of the George Floyd Murder and the resulting turmoil, 59% of Minnesotans approved of Governor Walz’s handling of the riots; however, one year later, and public sentiment has reversed its course. According to a recent poll conducted by American Experiment, 55% of residents do not approve of the Governor’s response to the riots with only 39% satisfied with his course of action. Many residents cite a loss in confidence in the Governor’s ability to address lawlessness and keep Minnesota families safe. Minnesotans need a governor who will prioritize public safety and punish those who continue to terrorize our local communities through guns and other violent crimes, but Governor Walz’s year-long performance demonstrates that he is no longer qualified to handle this crime epidemic.
